Public Safety Advisory: Reminder to be cautious around high snowbanks

March 27th, 2015

Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro (Hydro) is reminding residents across the province to be cautious around high snowbanks which can get dangerously close to overhead power lines.

The large accumulation of snow across the province has created large drifts that, in some areas, could potentially reach power lines. Large volumes of snow could bring children, snowmobilers, skiers or hikers, within contact range of live wires. These are high voltage lines and very dangerous.

Residents should also be careful around any electrical facilities, like substations, because they become more easily accessible in heavy snow.

Hydro crews are actively patrolling and flagging lines in areas with heavy drifts, as well as adding guide guards and caution signs. If you notice areas of concern in Hydro service communities, please notify us immediately at 1.888.737.1296.

Please see www.hydrosafety.ca for more information on safety around power lines
