Public Safety Advisory – Potential for Controlled Release of Water Ended

UPDATE  – The potential for water release in the Burnt Pond and White Bear River areas of Central and Southern Newfoundland is over for now.

People are advised to continue to use this area with great caution as water levels and flows are higher than normal and may be unpredictable.


Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro is advising residents, cabin owners and travellers that, due to the significant snow melt being experienced across the island there is a potential for water release in the following area:

In the Burnt Pond and White Bear River areas of Central and Southern Newfoundland. The Company may be required to release water at its Burnt Dam Spillway into the White Bear River.

People are advised to use this area with great caution as water levels and flows are higher than normal and may be unpredictable. Water releases at spillways could begin at any time.
